Tensions Rise in Punjab Following the Murder of RTI Activist Simranjeet Singh

New Delhi, May 31: The murder of RTI activist and lawyer Simranjeet Singh in Jalandhar has escalated tensions across Punjab. Former cabinet minister and Congress leader Gurkirat Singh Kotli has expressed strong concerns regarding the state’s law and order situation. He criticized the government, stating that law enforcement in Punjab has completely deteriorated. The government is failing on all fronts, and gangsters are becoming increasingly unrestrained.

In a conversation on Saturday, Kotli lamented the tragic nature of this public assassination. He emphasized that this is not an isolated incident, as multiple similar cases have emerged during Bhagwant Mann‘s administration.

Kotli accused the government of allowing gangster culture to flourish unchecked. He pointed out that there have been numerous shooting incidents in various locations, creating an atmosphere of fear among the public. He referenced a recent shooting incident in Khanna, where open gunfire occurred at the famous Prem Dhaba and Dev Collection, indicating that criminals are emboldened.

Local residents are understandably frightened by such brazen acts of violence. Kotli stated that it is deeply concerning for such incidents to happen in broad daylight. He urged the government to take stringent measures to prevent further occurrences of this nature.

The attack on Simranjeet Singh took place near the Chaheru area along the LPU Jalandhar-Ludhiana highway. Unidentified assailants ambushed Singh, unleashing a barrage of gunfire as he passed by. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The exact motive behind this murder remains unclear, but police are actively investigating the case.
