Chatra, May 19: The police in Chatra district of Jharkhand have apprehended an active courier from an inter-state drug trafficking gang, seizing approximately 2.9 kilograms of illegal wet opium valued at ₹17 lakh. The arrested individual has been identified as Anil Kumar Yadav, a resident of Sikkid village in the Chatra Sadar police station area.
Authorities are now conducting raids at potential locations to locate the main supplier behind this shipment. During a press conference held at the district collectorate, Superintendent of Police Animesh Naithani stated that the police received credible intelligence indicating that a young man was transporting a significant quantity of opium via a passenger tempo, heading towards Delhi through Gaya district in Bihar.
Upon verifying the information, a special raid team was formed under the leadership of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO). This team initiated an intensive vehicle checking operation near GosaiDih, located at the Jharkhand-Bihar border. During the vehicle inspection, when the police team signaled a passenger tempo to stop, a suspicious young man inside attempted to flee with a black backpack upon noticing the police.
However, alert officers quickly surrounded him and apprehended him. A thorough search of the backpack revealed 2.9 kilograms of high-quality wet opium, two smartphones, and ₹1,200 in cash. SP Animesh Naithani further explained that Anil Kumar Yadav was merely acting as a courier for the inter-state drug syndicate. Major opium traffickers had assigned him this task, which involved receiving delivery point and buyer location details via phone after reaching Delhi.
Initial interrogations have yielded several shocking and crucial leads related to this inter-state drug syndicate’s network. The police have also identified the main supplier and claim that he will soon be behind bars. This illegal opium network in Chatra is directly connected to states such as Bihar, Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, and the arrested individual has previously delivered narcotics to other states.
