Mumbai, May 20: Actor Boman Irani is gearing up for the release of his film ‘Peddy’ in theaters. As he promotes the film, he has shared his thoughts on the ongoing debate between North and South Indian cinema. Irani firmly believes that what truly matters in the industry is not language, but the story and the work itself.
He expressed his frustration over the long-standing North versus South debate in Indian cinema. “I am completely tired of this division. Ultimately, we are all one—we are all Indians,” he stated.
During a recent conversation, Irani remarked, “To be honest, I am bored of this North-South debate. After all, we are all Indians. The language changes every 200 kilometers in the country, but that doesn’t mean one should consider another as foreign.”
Irani explained that a person from Delhi may speak Hindi differently than he does, but cinema remains the same. “Humanity remains the same, and so do the people who love this country. Today, Indian cinema has transcended regional boundaries. Films made in different languages are being appreciated across the country and around the world.”
Using his upcoming film ‘Peddy’ as an example, he noted, “People are coming to Mumbai to promote a film made in Hyderabad. This is all part of our beautiful country.”
Irani also discussed the depth of acting, emphasizing that whether the language is Hindi, English, or Marathi, an actor must understand the subtext of the dialogue. “Think in your language first, then express it. The emotions should reach the audience,” he advised.
Known for his remarkable comic timing and performances in films like ‘Munna Bhai MBBS,’ ‘3 Idiots,’ ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla,’ ‘Don,’ and ‘PK,’ Boman Irani’s upcoming film ‘Peddy’ features Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Divyendu Sharma in key roles. The film is set to release on June 4.
