Baramulla, May 20: The police in Baramulla district have achieved a significant success under the ‘Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir Campaign.’ They received information about illegal opium cultivation in the village of Pariswani, Kunjir. Acting swiftly, the police team arrived at the scene and destroyed a large quantity of opium plants.
Initial investigations revealed that the illegal farming was taking place on land owned by Ahmad Reshi, the son of Abdul Rahim Reshi, a resident of Pariswani Kunjir. The police have registered FIR number 62/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act and have begun further investigations.
During the operation, illegal opium plants were completely destroyed in the presence of a magistrate and a team from the excise, revenue, and agriculture departments. Samples taken from the site have been sealed for legal proceedings.
Baramulla police have decided to intensify this campaign. Police officials stated that strict action is being taken against drug cultivation, trafficking, and the drug trade in the district. They have urged the public to report any information regarding illegal drug farming or trafficking immediately.
Under the ‘Drug-Free India Campaign,’ police are continuously conducting raids in Jammu and Kashmir. The cultivation of dangerous crops like opium is a major factor contributing to youth addiction and harming society as a whole. Therefore, this police action is seen as a relief at the local level.
According to the police, such illegal farming not only violates the law but also jeopardizes the future of the younger generation. In recent months, several instances of illegal cultivation have been eradicated in Baramulla district.
The administration believes that with public cooperation, the entire district can soon be made drug-free. The police have warned that anyone found involved in drug cultivation will face strict action, with severe penalties under the NDPS Act.
