Digvijaya Singh Urges CM Mohan Yadav to Initiate Early Purchase of Moong

Bhopal, April 26: Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh, has formally reached out to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav regarding the urgent need to address the crisis in the agricultural sector by initiating the purchase of summer moong.

Singh highlighted that this year, the area under moong cultivation has increased by 15-20%. The seasoned politician warned that current market trends indicate a potential economic crisis for the state’s farming community.

According to Singh, the summer moong crop in various regions of Madhya Pradesh is now fully ripe, and a significant influx of produce is expected in the markets in the coming days. Therefore, he emphasized the necessity of starting purchases promptly.

He cautioned that without immediate government intervention, farmers may be forced to sell their hard-earned crops at prices that do not even cover their basic production costs.

Citing information from former member of the State Agricultural Advisory Council, Kedar Sirohi, Singh expressed concern over the lack of proactive measures from the state administration.

He pointed out a significant administrative oversight, stating that the Madhya Pradesh government has yet to submit its annual procurement proposal to the central government. This proposal is typically a prerequisite for obtaining approval and funding under the Price Support Scheme, which allows for large-scale government purchases at minimum support prices.

In his letter, Singh stressed that the timely commencement of these procurement centers is crucial for the livelihoods of thousands of farmers. Any further delay in coordination between state and central officials would directly harm the interests of the rural population.

Singh further noted that no proposal has been sent to the center so far this year. He urged Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to expedite the necessary approvals to ensure that the state’s farmers receive a fair and profitable return for their hard work.
