Delip Ghosh Advocates for Action Against Illegal Immigration to Restore Peace in Bengal

Kolkata, May 30: Delip Ghosh, a minister in the West Bengal government, has responded to the issue of illegal immigrants residing in the state, emphasizing that resolving this matter is crucial for restoring peace in Bengal.

Speaking to reporters in West Midnapore on Saturday morning, Ghosh stated, “Currently, illegal immigrants are voluntarily returning to Bangladesh. However, this is not just about removing 2,000 or 5,000 individuals. We need to remove millions daily. Only then will the countless illegal immigrants residing here leave. They are benefiting from government schemes and are also responsible for law and order issues. This issue must be resolved for peace to return to Bengal.”

Addressing the incidents of encroachment in the state, Ghosh remarked, “Wherever encroachment or illegal occupation has occurred, cases should be registered—whether it involves private or government land. Complaints must be filed. Those responsible for the encroachment should clear the land. Otherwise, legal action will be taken, and necessary steps will be implemented.”

Regarding post-election violence, he noted, “Criminals and anti-social elements who have infiltrated politics are creating problems in several areas. The police are doing their job and have arrested many. Their illegal connections with certain individuals have been exposed. Some are causing disturbances, but the police will take strict action against them. No one in Bengal will be allowed to act against the law.”

Ghosh also commented on the Enforcement Directorate’s actions against former minister Sujit Bose of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), stating that many like Bose are already behind bars and more will follow. He added, “Legal proceedings are in the hands of the court. We cannot predict what the court will decide.”
