
Mumbai, May 30: In a thrilling encounter of the IPL 2026 second qualifier, Gujarat Titans (GT) showcased an impressive performance, defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 7 wickets. Chasing a formidable target of 215 runs set by RR, GT achieved the goal with 3 wickets in hand, completing the chase in just 18.4 overs.
With this victory, Gujarat Titans have now set the record for the highest successful run chase in IPL playoff history. Previously, this record belonged to Punjab Kings, who successfully chased down 204 runs against Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier of IPL 2025. This marks only the third instance in IPL history where GT has successfully chased a target exceeding 200 runs.
Gujarat Titans started strong, with captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan displaying excellent form. They formed a remarkable partnership, scoring 167 runs for the first wicket in just 12.5 overs. Sudharsan was dismissed after scoring 58 runs off 32 balls, hitting 8 fours and 1 six. Meanwhile, Gill played a stellar innings, scoring 104 runs off 53 balls, including 15 fours and 3 sixes. With this century, Gill became the first captain to score a hundred in an IPL playoff.
Jos Buttler remained not out at 9 runs, while Washington Sundar contributed 16 runs off 9 balls before being dismissed by Nandre Burger. Rahul Tewatia also played a crucial role, scoring 17 runs with 2 fours and 1 six, helping the team secure the win.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals posted a total of 214 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi was in exceptional form, scoring a powerful 96 runs off 47 balls, including 8 fours and 7 sixes. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal struggled with the bat, scoring only 1 run before getting out. Dhruv Jurel managed 7 runs before falling to Kagiso Rabada. Ravindra Jadeja remained not out at 45 runs off 35 balls, hitting 5 fours and 1 six. In the final overs, Donovan Ferreira dazzled with a strike rate of 345, scoring an unbeaten 38 runs off just 11 balls, including 2 fours and 4 sixes.
