Captain Gill Thrilled with Dominant Win Over Rajasthan Royals

New Chandigarh, May 30: In a thrilling encounter of IPL 2026’s second qualifier, Gujarat Titans (GT) showcased an impressive performance, defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets. This victory secured GT a spot in the finals. Captain Shubman Gill expressed his delight with the team’s performance but noted his desire to finish the match decisively.

Gill played a pivotal role with a stunning century at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. He formed a formidable partnership with Sai Sudharsan, scoring 167 runs for the first wicket in just 12.5 overs, turning the match in GT’s favor. After the win, Gill remarked, “There was a bit of confusion during the toss, but I am happy with the victory.”

Discussing his partnership with Sudharsan, Gill stated, “I believe we understand each other very well. We know each other’s game. Our communication while batting is excellent. We are aware that one of us needs to play aggressively. I think we are good at deciding who will attack which bowler.”

Reflecting on his century, Gill mentioned, “It depends on the zone you are in. I was just focusing on the gaps and the bowler, concentrating on where to hit the ball. I wasn’t trying to hit the ball too hard. I wanted to finish the match, but the way I got out was quite disappointing.”

In the second qualifier, Rajasthan Royals batted first, scoring 214 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered another stellar performance, scoring 96 runs off 47 balls. Ravindra Jadeja contributed with an unbeaten 45 runs off 35 balls, while Donovan Ferreira added a quick 38 runs off just 11 balls in the final overs. However, Gill’s remarkable innings of 104 runs off 53 balls, along with Sudharsan’s 58 runs off 32 balls, enabled GT to chase down the target of 215 runs comfortably in 18.4 overs, losing three wickets. Gujarat Titans will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final match on Sunday.
