
New Chandigarh, May 30: In a thrilling encounter during the second qualifier of IPL 2026, Gujarat Titans (GT) triumphed over Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets. The standout performer for GT was captain Shubman Gill, who delivered an exceptional batting display, scoring a century. With this achievement, Gill became the first captain in IPL history to score a century in the playoffs.
Gill’s innings of 104 runs came off just 53 balls, featuring 15 fours and three sixes. Chasing a target of 215 runs set by RR, Gill provided a strong start alongside Sai Sudharsan, forming a formidable partnership that amassed 167 runs for the first wicket in just 12.5 overs.
Sudharsan contributed significantly with a brisk 58 runs off 32 balls, hitting eight fours and one six. Washington Sundar added 16 runs, while Rahul Tewatia remained unbeaten with 17 runs from nine balls. GT successfully reached their target in 18.4 overs, losing three wickets in the process.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals posted a total of 214 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi was the star for RR, scoring an impressive 96 runs off 47 balls, including eight fours and seven sixes. Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with a solid 45 runs off 35 balls.
In the closing overs, Donovan Ferreira showcased explosive batting, scoring an unbeaten 38 runs off just 11 balls. For GT, Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder each took two wickets. With this victory, Gujarat Titans secured their place in the finals for the third time. They will face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.
