Rajouri, May 30: The joint search operation, dubbed Operation Sherwali, conducted by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF, continues on its eighth day in Rajouri district. This operation was initiated following intelligence reports suggesting the presence of suspected terrorists in the area.
In the dense forest regions of the Manjakot sector, particularly around the areas of Ghamir Mughalan and Dorimal, there are fears that two to three terrorists may be hiding. Security measures in the area are extremely tight, especially after recent sporadic explosions and gunfire.
Last week, joint teams of police and security forces launched a cordon and search operation based on intelligence about suspicious activities. Officials reported that there were indications of two to three individuals being present, prompting a thorough search of the area. Security forces have also fired at suspected hiding spots of the terrorists.
This forested region in the Pir Panjal range of Rajouri is considered one of the most challenging areas for anti-terror operations due to its steep hills, dense forests, and limited accessibility.
During the operation, security personnel have increased surveillance in surrounding areas. Checkpoints have been established at various locations, and strict monitoring of vehicle and pedestrian movement is underway. The search operation has been ongoing throughout the day, with security forces conducting systematic searches in several parts of the forest.
So far, there have been no reports of casualties from either side during this operation.
It is noteworthy that security forces have intensified their efforts to eliminate terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir in recent times. Just two weeks ago, they thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control, resulting in the neutralization of one terrorist. Prior to this, raids were conducted on the hideouts of suspected terrorists and their associates in Jammu and Kashmir.
