Bhopal, June 2: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the mysterious death of actress Twisha Sharma. On Tuesday, the agency filed a petition in the Bhopal District Court seeking permission to record statements from several key witnesses. The court also directed that former judge Giribala Singh be provided with a secure cell in Bhopal Central Jail.
Advocate Anurag Srivastava, representing Twisha Sharma’s family, stated that the CBI’s application includes requests to record statements from relatives and close friends of retired judge Giribala Singh and his son, Samarth Singh. The agency aims to gather firsthand accounts to understand the sequence of events and verify facts.
During the hearing, the CBI informed the court that all seized digital data and other physical evidence have been sent for forensic examination. The agency also indicated that after recording statements from witnesses and obtaining additional post-mortem reports, it may seek further custody of the accused mother-son duo for additional questioning.
According to Anurag Srivastava, the CBI mentioned that if necessary, a separate application would be filed for the custodial interrogation of Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh after receiving all witness statements and post-mortem reports.
In the meantime, the CBI did not request an extension of police remand, leading the court to place Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh in judicial custody for 14 days.
Following the court’s order, Giribala Singh requested special protection in Bhopal Central Jail. She informed the court that she had previously served as the principal district and sessions judge in Bhopal and had sentenced several convicts during her tenure. Many of these convicts are currently incarcerated in Bhopal Central Jail, posing a potential threat to her and her family.
The court accepted her plea and instructed the jail administration to ensure she is provided with a secure location and necessary protection.
The forensic investigation report and witness statements are still pending. The CBI has stated that if further questioning of the accused is deemed necessary, it will approach the court again. Until then, Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh will remain in judicial custody.
