
New Delhi, June 2: The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, announced a comprehensive relief initiative to protect citizens from the severe heat and heatwave challenges. This campaign spans all 13 districts of the capital and includes mobile heat relief units, cooling zones, and temporary shelters providing essential services such as drinking water, ORS packets, towels, caps, and more.
Since the launch of the mobile heat relief units on May 6, over 470,089 individuals have received assistance. During this period, 184,021 liters of drinking water have been distributed, along with 243,945 ORS packets, 67,431 towels, and 49,434 caps.
The mobile heat relief units have benefitted the most people in the North-East district, with 83,703 individuals receiving aid. Other districts include East with 66,964, New Delhi with 41,667, Central North with 41,600, West with 39,875, South with 37,870, South-West with 30,915, South-East with 26,695, Central with 24,890, Outer North with 21,900, Old Delhi with 19,405, North-West with 18,385, and North with 16,220 individuals.
Notably, the New Delhi district has distributed the highest amount of drinking water, totaling 32,974.3 liters, while the Central North district has provided the most ORS packets, with 71,625 distributed. The South district has also contributed significantly, distributing 7,860 towels and 5,240 caps.
To further protect residents from the intense sun, temporary shelters are being established at metro stations such as Nangloi, Rohini, and Peeragarhi, as well as at bus terminals and major markets. These shelters are already providing immediate relief, with 5,475 individuals benefitting in the Central district alone, alongside the distribution of 2,100 liters of water and 375 ORS packets.
In the West district, 920 individuals have received aid, with 340 liters of water and 100 ORS packets distributed. The South district has assisted 900 people, providing 350 liters of water and 150 ORS packets, while the North-East district has helped 120 individuals with 300 liters of water and 150 ORS packets.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that some cooling zones and temporary shelters are fully operational, while others are still being established and expanded. The government is continuously reviewing the situation and will expand relief services as needed.
She urged citizens to avoid unnecessary outings during extreme heat, stay hydrated, use ORS, and follow all precautions to protect against the heatwave. The Delhi government is committed to ensuring that no resident is left without relief and assistance during this intense heat period.
