
Kohima, March 6: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan will embark on a three-day visit to three northeastern states starting Friday. He will serve as the chief guest at the graduation ceremonies of central universities in Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura, officials announced on Thursday.
During his first visit to Nagaland, the Vice President will arrive in the Lumami area of the Zunheboto district on March 6. He is scheduled to address the eighth graduation ceremony of Nagaland University.
On March 7, he will attend the 20th graduation ceremony at Mizoram University. Following this, on March 8, the Vice President will participate in the 14th graduation ceremony at Tripura University, where he will address the students.
Meanwhile, a preparatory meeting was held in Aizawl, Mizoram, chaired by Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena, to review the arrangements for the Vice President’s visit. Representatives from various departments discussed their responsibilities to ensure the smooth conduct of the events.
During his Tripura visit, the Vice President will meet ‘Lakhpati Didi’ at the International Trade and Fair Centre in the outskirts of Agartala. He will also pay tribute at the Albert Ekka Memorial Park located in Lichubagan.
The police administration has implemented extensive security measures for the Vice President’s visit to Tripura.
An official from the university noted that graduation ceremonies had not been held in the past two years (2024 and 2025). This time, eligible students will receive certificates, degrees, gold medals, and Ph.D. awards.
A total of 283 students from various departments will be awarded gold medals, while 149 researchers will receive Ph.D. degrees. The ceremony will be inaugurated at the university campus in Surya Maninagar, located on the outskirts of Agartala.
The event will also see the presence of Tripura’s Governor Indra Sen Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Manik Saha, and the university’s Chancellor Ahmad Javed, who will address the gathering.
Tripura University was established in October 1987 and was granted central university status on July 2, 2007, under the Tripura University Act, 2006, passed by Parliament. Currently, 64 colleges are affiliated with the university.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Education is working to expedite the selection and appointment process for a new Vice Chancellor.
