Chief Minister Mohan Yadav Advocates for Organic Farming in Tribal Areas

Bhopal, May 22: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasized the promotion of organic farming in tribal regions during a review meeting of the Tribal Affairs Department on Thursday. He highlighted that tribal farmers in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh are already practicing organic farming. A team from Madhya Pradesh will be sent to study these practices.

The meeting was attended by Tribal Affairs Minister Vijay Shah, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain, Additional Chief Secretary Neeraj Mandloi, Additional Chief Secretary of Finance Manish Rastogi, and Principal Secretary of the Tribal Affairs Department Gulshan Bamra, among other officials.

Yadav urged improvements in the quality of education and living conditions in schools, ashrams, and hostels operated by the Tribal Affairs Department. He also called for collaboration with social organizations to preserve traditional social values and promote holistic development in tribal areas.

He stressed the need for various government departments to work together in tribal regions to ensure the development of public facilities through convergence. The Chief Minister encouraged the promotion of animal husbandry and sought collaboration to enhance milk production. He directed continuous efforts for the overall development of the state’s particularly disadvantaged tribes, including Baiga, Bharia, and Sahariya.

Yadav instructed the department to take necessary actions to improve the quality of education. It was reported that seven out of the top ten districts in the 2026 high school and higher secondary examination results are tribal districts. Since December 2023, scholarships totaling ₹137.52 crore have been disbursed to 365,000 students from tribal communities in grades 9 and 10. During the same period, ₹673.64 crore has been paid to 428,000 students under the post-matric scholarship scheme. The department currently operates 2,671 hostels and ashram schools.

Minister Vijay Shah noted that the government is providing ₹1,500 monthly to the bank accounts of women heads of households from particularly disadvantaged tribes under the food grant scheme. Since December 2023, a total of ₹432 crore has been distributed to 237,550 women.
