Uttar Pradesh Government Increases Dearness Allowance for 1.6 Million Employees and Pensioners

Lucknow, May 22: Good news has arrived for millions of government employees in Uttar Pradesh. The state government has announced an increase in the dearness allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners.

The Yogi government has decided to raise the DA by 2 percent, bringing the total to 60 percent, up from the previous 58 percent. According to the government order, this increased allowance will take effect with the salary for May 2026. As salaries for May are credited to employees’ accounts at the beginning of June, the increase will be reflected in the June salary and pension payments.

This decision follows an increase in the DA by the central government, prompting the Uttar Pradesh government to take similar action. The enhanced DA is expected to benefit regular employees, teachers, and pensioners alike.

Furthermore, the government clarified that this increase will be retroactive to January 1, 2026. Employees will receive arrears for the four months from January to April 2026.

Prior to this announcement, several states, including Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Bihar, had already raised the DA for their employees.

This decision is anticipated to provide significant relief to millions of government employees in Uttar Pradesh, helping them cope with rising inflation.

It is noteworthy that the Finance Ministry announced a 2 percent increase in the DA for central government employees on April 22, effective from January 1, 2026. The Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) has also revised the DA rates for bank employees for May, June, and July 2026. Additionally, Indian Railways announced a 2 percent increase in DA and dearness relief rates on May 13.
