Shimla, May 22: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhu defended Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks in the Lok Sabha, which included controversial comments about Prime Minister Modi.
During a media interaction in Shimla, CM Sukhu stated that as the opposition leader, Rahul Gandhi raises issues that resonate with the public. “He speaks the truth, which is why the BJP feels discomfort. They do not want these matters to reach the people,” he said. Sukhu emphasized that Gandhi’s statements focus on the challenges facing the nation and the welfare of the citizens.
On the occasion of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s death anniversary, Sukhu fondly remembered his visionary leadership and invaluable contributions to the country’s technological and modern development. He noted that Rajiv Gandhi’s ideas and commitment to nation-building continue to inspire everyone today.
In a post on social media platform X, Sukhu highlighted that the government is advancing Rajiv Gandhi’s vision of a modern, self-reliant, and youthful India through the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Startup Scheme.’ This initiative offers a 50% subsidy for youth purchasing e-taxis, aiming to connect 500 young individuals to this program in the 2026-27 fiscal year, with a budget allocation of ₹50 crore. The e-taxis will be linked to government departments to ensure stable employment and regular income for the youth, along with an additional monthly support of ₹5,000 to enhance their financial empowerment.
In another post, CM Sukhu remarked that a healthier and well-nourished childhood will lead to a stronger future for Himachal Pradesh. To promote better health and balanced nutrition for children, the government is providing additional nutritious meals twice a week under the ‘Chief Minister’s Child Nutrition Scheme.’ A special budget of ₹17 crore has been allocated for the effective implementation of this program, ensuring that every child in the state receives optimal nutrition for a healthy and bright future.
