French Open 2026: Sinner and Djokovic Set for Mens Singles Draw Showdown

Paris, May 22: Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic, the record-holder for the most Grand Slam titles in tennis history, have been placed in different sections of the men’s singles draw for the French Open following the official draw ceremony held at Roland Garros.

World No. 1 Sinner comes into this prestigious clay-court tournament with a remarkable record of 29 consecutive match wins. He will begin his campaign against French wild card Clément Tabur. The 24-year-old aims to become the seventh man in the Open Era to complete a “Career Grand Slam” by winning the title at Roland Garros.

Three-time champion Djokovic will kick off his quest for a 25th major trophy against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. In the third round, he could face NextGen ATP star João Fonseca. Djokovic shares his section of the draw with second seed and 2024 finalist Alexander Zverev, who will start his journey against French player Benjamin Bonzi.

In Zverev’s quarter, home favorite Arthur Fils will begin his campaign against Stan Wawrinka, the 41-year-old Swiss player who is playing his final season on the ATP Tour. Wawrinka won the title at Roland Garros in 2015.

Gael Monfils is also in his last season on tour and will face Hugo Gaston in his final appearance at Roland Garros.

NextGen ATP talents Rafael Jodar, Martin Landaluce, and Moïse Kean have also learned about their draws. According to the Infosys ATP win/loss index, Jodar will start against Alexander Kovacevic in his debut match and could meet seventh seed Taylor Fritz in the third round.

Landaluce will face either a qualifier or a “lucky loser,” with a potential third-round clash against Sinner. Seventeen-year-old French wild card Moïse Kean’s first match will be against 2014 US Open champion Marin Čilić. Casper Ruud, who has reached the finals of major clay tournaments twice, could be a potential fourth-round opponent for Djokovic. The Norwegian recently played in the final in Rome and is currently competing in Geneva, where he has reached the quarterfinals.
