Beijing, May 22: China and Russia issued a joint statement on May 20, promoting multipolarity and a new type of international relations.
The statement highlighted the rich histories and civilizations of both nations. As founding members of the United Nations and permanent members of the Security Council, they play a significant role in maintaining global power balance and improving international relations.
Since the end of World War II, there have been rapid changes in the international landscape and power dynamics. The end of colonialism and the Cold War has led to a notable increase in the number of sovereign states globally, making the international community more diverse and complex. Countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and the Caribbean have seen unprecedented growth in their development levels and international influence.
There has also been a significant rise in regional and inter-regional organizations, which cover all areas of international politics, security, economy, and cultural cooperation, enhancing their role in global affairs. Global connectivity and interdependence have reached unprecedented levels in human history. Attempts by some nations to manipulate international affairs, impose their interests with a colonial mindset, and restrict the development of other sovereign states have completely failed.
In this context, both parties call on the international community to advocate for an equitable and systematic multipolar world. They emphasize the following key principles for building a new type of international relations, which includes a more just and rational global governance system:
– Maintaining openness, inclusivity, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
– Upholding security equality and indivisibility.
– Promoting the democratization of international relations and improving the global governance system.
– Preserving the diversity of world civilizations and values.
Both sides will continue to develop a shared vision for creating a multipolar world and a more just new type of international relations.
