Mumbai, April 5: In the world of cinema, a hero’s bravery and charm can only shine when matched with a formidable villain. Tej Sapru, an actor who has successfully carried forward the legacy of legendary antagonists like Amrish Puri and Shakti Kapoor, has made a significant mark in Bollywood. With his captivating performances, the brown-eyed actor has both terrified and entertained audiences in numerous films.
Initially dreaming of becoming a cricketer, Tej entered the film industry as a hero. However, it was his roles as a villain that truly established his identity in Bollywood. He is remembered for unforgettable characters like Goga in “Tridev” and Irfan in “Mohra,” showcasing his impactful acting style and menacing presence.
Born on April 5, 1955, in Mumbai, Tej Sapru has appeared in over 80 films, predominantly playing antagonist roles. Coming from a film family, his father, D.K. Sapru, was involved in the industry, and his sister Preeti Sapru and uncle Jivan Sapru are also actors. Interestingly, he is related to actress Rekha through his marriage to her younger sister, Dhanlaxmi.
In his childhood, Tej was passionate about cricket and badminton, with aspirations of becoming a cricketer. Acting was not initially on his radar, but fate had other plans. Tej made his debut as a hero in the 1979 film “Suraksha.” However, shortly after the film’s release, tragedy struck when his father passed away unexpectedly. With the family’s responsibilities now resting on his shoulders, Tej had to work to support them. Faced with financial challenges, he accepted any role that came his way, leading to an influx of villainous characters.
