Venezuelas Acting President Delsy Rodríguez to Strengthen Bilateral Ties During India Visit

New Delhi, June 3: Venezuela’s Acting President Delsy Rodríguez is set to arrive in India for a four-day visit on Wednesday. This trip comes at a time when India and Venezuela are advancing their cooperation in energy, trade, investment, and technology sectors.

The Ministry of External Affairs has released Rodríguez’s itinerary, which indicates her arrival at Palam Airport at 5 PM on Wednesday. On June 4, she will meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the Leela Palace around 9:45 AM. Later that day, she is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House around 11:30 AM. In the afternoon, she will pay tribute at Raj Ghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi.

A spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs shared this information via a video clip on social media. According to the spokesperson, Rodríguez will be in India from June 3 to 6 and will participate in several important meetings. This marks her first official visit to India while in her current role.

Previously, Rodríguez visited India as the Acting Vice President in October 2024 and February 2025. She also traveled to India in October 2019 and August 2023. During the 2024 NAM Summit, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil met with his Indian counterpart, S. Jaishankar. Venezuela has participated in all three editions of the Global South Summit. Beyond diplomatic ties, both countries have established strong business relationships.

In the 2025-26 period, India and Venezuela engaged in a trade deal worth $678 million. In May 2026, Venezuela ranked third among the countries supplying crude oil to India.

India has also extended significant support to Venezuela in the health sector. In November 2025, India sent a shipment of 2.5 tons of life-saving vaccines to Venezuela. The first AYUSH Information Center in Venezuela is located in Maracaibo, inaugurated by the Indian Embassy in 2017. Cultural ties between the two nations are also robust, with Venezuela celebrating International Yoga Day annually since 2015.

The relationship between India and Venezuela has been friendly for several decades. Both countries are crucial partners in the energy sector, with increasing collaboration in crude oil trade in recent years. India imports oil from various sources to meet its energy needs, while Venezuela is among the world’s leading oil-producing nations. Recent months have seen a rise in India’s crude oil imports from Venezuela, further strengthening the economic ties between the two nations.

This visit could provide a new direction for the strategic partnership between India and Venezuela. In addition to energy security and economic cooperation, both countries can work towards enhancing mutual collaboration on global platforms.
