New Delhi, June 3: A devastating fire at a restaurant in the Malviya Nagar area of the capital has resulted in a tragic loss of life. The death toll has risen to 21, with most victims identified as foreign nationals, according to police reports.
The Delhi Police issued a press note stating that they received information about the fire at the Flourish Stay B&B at 8:48 AM on Wednesday. Upon receiving the alert, a local police team promptly arrived at the scene to initiate rescue operations. Eight fire department vehicles were deployed to control the blaze.
Through the combined efforts of the police, fire department, and other emergency agencies, over 40 individuals were safely evacuated and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
As of now, the police have confirmed the deaths of 21 individuals. Officials noted that the majority of the deceased are foreign nationals, although the process for officially confirming their identities and nationalities is ongoing.
Authorities stated that the rescue operation is still underway, with all relevant agencies present at the site to provide assistance to those affected. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences regarding the incident. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, he announced a compensation of ₹200,000 for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.
In his statement, PM Modi said, “The loss of life in the fire incident in Malviya Nagar is deeply saddening. My heartfelt condolences go out to those who have lost loved ones. I wish for the swift recovery of the injured. The administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected. The Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund will provide ₹200,000 to each family of the deceased and ₹50,000 to the injured.”
