Jodhpur, June 3: Asaram, who is serving a life sentence for the sexual assault of a minor, has been admitted to a hospital in Jodhpur once again. He was transported from Central Jail to Arogyam Hospital under heavy police protection and is currently under observation.
Hospital officials stated that Asaram was brought to the facility on Tuesday night. A significant police presence was deployed during his transfer, ensuring his safe arrival at the hospital via ambulance.
After surrendering at Jodhpur Central Jail, Asaram filed a petition in the Rajasthan High Court citing health issues. He requested permission to receive treatment at Arogyam Hospital.
This case was brought before the vacation bench of the Rajasthan High Court. Reports indicate that following the court’s decision, Asaram arrived in Jodhpur on May 28. Upon his arrival, a large number of supporters gathered at Jodhpur Airport. He went directly to his ashram in Pal village, where he underwent a medical examination at AIIMS Jodhpur before surrendering to Jodhpur Central Jail.
Previously, the division bench of the Rajasthan High Court, comprising Justice Arun Monga and Justice Yogendra Kumar Purohit, upheld the life sentence imposed by the lower court. The court clarified that Asaram must remain in prison for the rest of his life.
In its remarks, the court noted that while the sentence may be confined within the prison walls, the mental trauma and lifelong pain inflicted on the victim cannot be limited.
Following this order, the court revoked Asaram’s interim bail and directed his immediate arrest. Subsequently, he surrendered before the jail authorities.
The case dates back to August 2013 when allegations of sexual assault against a minor student surfaced at his ashram in Jodhpur. In April 2018, a lower court found Asaram guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
