New Delhi, February 19: Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet and Google, addressed world leaders on Thursday, stating that artificial intelligence (AI) is the technology that has inspired him the most. He described it as “the greatest platform shift of our lifetime.”

During the inauguration of the ‘India AI Impact Summit‘ in the national capital, Pichai remarked, “No technology inspires me to dream bigger than AI. This is the most revolutionary change of our lifetime. We are on the brink of rapid advancements and discoveries that can help emerging economies overcome traditional shortcomings.”

He urged governments and industries to work together in a bold and responsible manner to ensure that everyone benefits from this technology. Pichai also cautioned that positive outcomes from AI are not guaranteed or automatic.

The Google CEO highlighted AI-driven scientific progress by referencing AlphaFold. Google DeepMind’s protein folding technology has made unprecedented advancements, being utilized by over three million researchers across 190 countries to develop malaria vaccines.

He noted that AlphaFold has compiled decades of research into a database now accessible to the world. Furthermore, he mentioned that Google is cataloging DNA disease markers and creating AI agents that act as true partners in the scientific method.

Pichai also discussed Google’s increasing investments in India, including a full-stack AI hub in Visakhapatnam, part of a $15 billion infrastructure investment.

He expressed his admiration for the pace of change in India, stating that we must adopt a bold approach to AI, as it can transform the lives of billions. The company is also building a vast network of sub-sea fiber optic cables as part of the India-America Connect initiative, which includes four new systems linking the two countries.

Addressing the audience, he said, “In India, we are helping farmers protect their livelihoods. Last year, the Indian government sent AI-based forecasts to millions of farmers, alerting them about adverse weather conditions.”
