Doha, May 18: Qatar and Kuwait have condemned the recent drone attacks on Saudi Arabia. Both nations issued separate statements, labeling the assaults as threats to regional integrity.
Kuwait referenced international regulations, stating, “This incursion violates United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which was passed to safeguard the Gulf region’s infrastructure.” The country also expressed its support for measures taken to ensure Saudi Arabia’s security.
Qatar described the incident as an “unacceptable aggression” and a direct violation of Saudi sovereignty. The Foreign Ministry affirmed Qatar’s full support for Saudi Arabia, backing every effort to ensure its security, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens and residents.
Both nations expressed complete solidarity with Riyadh, stating their support for all measures taken to protect Saudi territory and its citizens.
This statement followed Saudi Arabia’s claim of intercepting three suspicious drones with its air defense system. Major General Turki Al-Maliki, a spokesperson for the Saudi Defense Ministry, stated that the country would take necessary military and operational steps in response to any attempts to violate its sovereignty and security.
Al-Maliki also emphasized that every necessary action would be taken to ensure the safety of citizens and residents in Saudi territory.
Despite a temporary ceasefire implemented in April, hostilities related to the Iran conflict have significantly decreased. However, incidents of drones being sent from Iraq towards Gulf countries continue to emerge.
On Sunday, a drone attack occurred outside the Barakah nuclear power plant in the UAE. Officials reported that the attack targeted a power generator located outside the plant, with no injuries or radioactive leaks reported. The International Atomic Energy Agency also expressed concern regarding this incident.
