New Delhi, May 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to VD Satheesan on his swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Kerala on Monday. He also assured the new Kerala government of full cooperation from the central government.
PM Modi took to the social media platform X to express his sentiments, stating, “Congratulations to VD Satheesan Ji on taking the oath as the Chief Minister of Kerala. I wish him all the best for his tenure. The central government assures every possible support to the newly formed Kerala government in fulfilling the aspirations of the people.”
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, where Congress leader VD Satheesan was sworn in by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. Alongside Satheesan, other members of his 20-member cabinet also took their oaths during this grand event.
Senior Congress leaders Ramesh Chennithala, K Muraleedharan, A P Anil Kumar, and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief Sani Joseph were among those who were sworn in.
Additionally, leaders from the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Kerala Congress, and Communist Marxist Party (CMP) also took their oaths.
The ceremony was attended by prominent Congress figures, including National President Mallikarjun Kharge, MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with several senior party leaders.
With VD Satheesan’s swearing-in, the decade-long rule of CPI(M) veteran Pinarayi Vijayan has officially come to an end. The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has returned to power after 15 years, following the last tenure under the late former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
In the recently concluded elections, the UDF made a remarkable comeback, winning 102 seats in the 140-member assembly, with Congress alone securing 63 seats, marking its best performance in the state to date.
