Gujarat Ministers and Legislators Complete Self-Enumeration Process for Census 2027

Ahmedabad, May 18: The digital self-enumeration process for Census 2027 has officially commenced across Gujarat. This initiative symbolizes the start of the first phase of India’s upcoming census through an online citizen participation model.

The central government has introduced the ‘Self-Enumeration’ (SE) feature under the Census 2027 framework. This allows families to submit their demographic and housing information via an official portal before the door-to-door counting begins.

In Gujarat, this facility will be available from May 17 to May 31. Following this period, ground-level verification and data collection will take place in June.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launched the process on Sunday by completing his family’s information online from Gandhinagar. This act formally linked the state’s participation to this national initiative.

According to officials, the Chief Minister stated that this initiative is part of efforts to strengthen digital governance and improve the efficiency of large-scale public data collection systems.

The Census Directorate has indicated that through ‘self-enumeration’, citizens can voluntarily submit information related to housing, amenities, and family structure via a secure online platform. This data will later be verified during the physical counting phase.

This process is being implemented through an official census portal, which provides multilingual and mobile-compatible access to residents across the state.

The municipal census department in Ahmedabad has coordinated the participation of selected representatives and government officials to promote the adoption of the digital process.

As part of the initial phase, several ministers, legislators, former ministers, and councilors have submitted their details through the portal.

Participants include Urban Development Minister Darshana Jardosh, legislators Amul Bhatt (Maninagar), Kanchan Radadiya (Thakkarbapanagar), Amit Thakar (Vejalpur), Amit Shah (Ellisbridge), Dr. Payal Kukani (Naroda), Dr. Hasmukh Patel (Amraiwadi), Bhikhu Patel (Naranpura), and Dr. Harshad Patel (Sabarmati).

Former ministers Gordhan Zadafia and Dilip Parmar, along with several ward councilors, have also completed their enumeration.

Census officials have stated that the aim of this initiative is to enhance accuracy and reduce the burden of fieldwork, allowing citizens to register their verified information in advance.

The system generates a ‘Self-Enumeration ID’ (SE ID), which will be used later to confirm and finalize the information during the household visits.

According to the official schedule, the self-enumeration process in Gujarat will conclude on May 31.

Subsequently, from June 1 to June 30, field operations for ‘House Listing and Housing Census’ will be conducted, during which enumerators will collect information door-to-door across the state.

During these visits, citizens will need to present their SE ID for verification. This process will be completed nationwide in two phases. The first phase will gather data related to households and families, while the second phase is scheduled for 2027 to count the population.
