New Delhi, May 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Monday that the outcomes of his recent visit to Sweden have invigorated and strengthened the relationship between the two nations. He expressed confidence that the India-Sweden partnership will significantly contribute to building a more prosperous and progressive world.
He quoted the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, on the social media platform ‘X’, saying, “These outcomes will bring new energy and momentum to India-Sweden relations, and I firmly believe that our partnership will play a meaningful role in creating a more prosperous and progressive planet.”
During Modi’s visit to Sweden, several agreements were signed between the two countries.
The first is the India-Sweden Joint Innovation Partnership 2.0, which will establish a virtual India-Sweden Joint Science and Technology Center (ISJSTC). This initiative aims to strengthen collaboration in emerging technologies such as AI, 6G, quantum computing, sustainable mining, critical minerals, and space and life sciences.
Secondly, the goal is to elevate India-Sweden bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership, adopting a joint statement and a joint action plan (2026-2030). This aims to enhance economic resilience and security between the two nations.
The third agreement focuses on approving the joint development of the India-Sweden Technology and AI Corridor (SITAC), which will bolster AI-centered partnerships.
Lastly, both countries aim to double bilateral economic exchanges—trade and investment—within the next five years. This will create more opportunities for industries and strengthen partnerships in the Make in India initiative.
During his visit, Modi emphasized that India is one of the world’s most attractive destinations for investment, innovation, and manufacturing. He invited European companies to deepen their engagement with India as a reliable and trustworthy economic partner.
Modi addressed the European Round Table (ERT) in Gothenburg, highlighting the growing strategic alignment between India and Europe. He stressed the importance of reliable partnerships in an increasingly complex and uncertain global environment.
He welcomed the progress in India-EU relations, which includes the successful conclusion of negotiations for the historic India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). He described this agreement as a transformative economic partnership that will create new opportunities in trade, technology, manufacturing, services, and robust supply chains.
