New Delhi, May 18: Rajasthan Royals’ assistant coach Vikram Rathour acknowledged that Mitchell Starc’s 15th over was the turning point in their match against Delhi Capitals. Delhi Capitals delivered an impressive performance, defeating Rajasthan Royals by five wickets in the 62nd match of IPL 2026 on Sunday.
Rathour stated that the Rajasthan Royals fell short by at least 20 runs due to poor decisions by the batsmen. During a press conference, he remarked, “I completely agree. If not more, we were at least 20 runs behind. We were at 160 runs in 14 overs with two wickets down. From there, we should have aimed for 220 runs. Losing three wickets in one over leaves you with no options. The batsmen could have made smarter decisions during that over.”
He added, “This is a lesson learned. Mistakes happen in every match, and the idea is to learn from them. I hope that next time we find ourselves in a similar situation, we will achieve a better outcome. Starc’s over definitely changed the match result for us. He is a world-class bowler. However, the shots we chose to play during that over were quite poor. We could have taken a bit more time to complete that over and push the match further.”
Rajasthan Royals batted first, scoring 193 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Dhruv Jurel contributed 53 runs, while captain Riyan Parag added 51 runs. However, Delhi Capitals successfully chased down the target of 194 runs, finishing at 19.2 overs with five wickets down. KL Rahul scored 56 runs off 42 balls, while Abhishek Porel contributed 51 runs.
