Chandigarh, May 7: The political landscape in Punjab has intensified following a raid by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Mohali. Pratap Singh Bajwa, the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly and a senior Congress leader, has leveled serious allegations against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Bajwa claims that the ED’s action targeted a close associate of the Chief Minister, who allegedly acted as a frontman across Punjab.
During a media interaction in Chandigarh, Bajwa stated that those under investigation were reportedly involved in fraudulent activities across the border. He noted that the substantial cash seized during the raid resembled scenes he had only witnessed in films. Bajwa accused the party of transforming from the “Aam Aadmi” (Common Man) party to one steeped in “billions of corruption.”
Referencing previous statements by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who recently claimed that no one could buy him and that he does not carry money in his pockets, Bajwa retorted that he has consistently maintained that the “Aam Aadmi Party” has become the “Arab Aam Party,” where the participation of ordinary citizens has been overshadowed by the affluent and powerful.
Bajwa raised concerns about alleged corruption in the state, citing large-scale land pooling, mining, liquor trade, and manipulation of postings and promotions over the past four years. He mentioned that courts have had to intervene in several cases, with various High Courts imposing bans on certain projects. He demanded that the government clarify the whereabouts of the funds allegedly amassed during these years.
Additionally, Bajwa addressed the recent bomb blasts in Punjab. He noted that after explosions near the Shambhu border railway line, the BSF headquarters in Jalandhar, and routes leading to the international border, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accused the BJP. Meanwhile, Punjab Police’s DGP Gaurav Yadav suggested that the ISI was involved in these incidents.
According to Bajwa, when these statements are viewed together, they imply an indirect accusation against the BJP-led central government of having ties with the ISI. He condemned this as a dangerous and irresponsible statement, asserting that in sensitive matters, reliance should be placed on facts and investigations rather than political accusations.
