Patna, May 1: Chaos ensued on Friday evening when the Jan Sadharan Express, traveling from Saharsa to Amritsar, emitted smoke near Simri Bakhtiyarpur railway station.
The sudden appearance of smoke from the train’s power car caused panic among passengers, leading to a brief moment of hysteria.
Witnesses reported that dense smoke began to rise from beneath the power car, likely due to brake binding issues. Recognizing the severity of the situation, passengers quickly pulled the emergency chain, halting the train near an overbridge. Once the train stopped, anxiety spread among the travelers, prompting many to disembark as a precaution.
The train’s driver and guard promptly took charge of the situation. Railway staff onboard attempted to control the smoke using fire extinguishers. Despite their efforts, smoke continued to billow, raising concerns about the incident. Railway officials immediately alerted the local fire brigade.
A team from the fire department arrived on the scene and collaborated with railway personnel to extinguish the smoke. After persistent efforts, they managed to bring the situation under control.
Following the incident, the train was carefully moved to platform number one at Simri Bakhtiyarpur railway station. After a brief halt, it resumed its journey.
As a result of the incident, the Jan Sadharan Express experienced a delay of approximately 25 minutes. Railway officials have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the smoke emission from the power car.
Initial assessments suggest a technical malfunction related to brake binding, but officials are exploring all possible factors. The Jan Sadharan Express is a key train connecting Bihar with northern states like Punjab and Haryana.
