PSG Triumphs in UEFA Champions League, 400 Arrested in Paris Celebrations

Paris, May 31: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured their title by defeating Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League final. Following PSG’s victory, a festive atmosphere erupted in the French capital. Local media reports indicate that the celebrations became so exuberant that police were compelled to arrest around 400 individuals.

PSG retained their title after winning 4-3 in a penalty shootout against Arsenal in Budapest, Hungary. The celebration in Paris was immense, with over 20,000 people reportedly gathering on the Champs-Élysées around 10:30 PM, while police worked to manage the crowd.

According to ‘Le Monde,’ a police officer sustained injuries during the celebrations, and a kiosk was set on fire near the avenue, although the flames were eventually extinguished. At least six vehicles were damaged in the chaos.

As reported by Xinhua, the mayor’s office of Paris’s 15th district announced that approximately 100,000 people are expected to gather for a parade at Champ de Mars near the Eiffel Tower on Sunday to celebrate PSG’s victory.

To maintain law and order, France has deployed 22,000 police officers in the capital. Last year, when PSG won their first Champions League title by defeating Inter Milan, two people lost their lives, and nearly 200 were injured.

With 18,000 fans present at the Puskás Aréna and millions of supporters across Paris, France, and the world, PSG added their 60th title to their trophy cabinet, marking a significant achievement in European football.

With this latest title, PSG has now won a total of 60 trophies since its inception, including 42 trophies since the arrival of Qatar Sports Investments in 2011. After claiming the French championship for the fifth consecutive time, PSG has become the second team of the 21st century to win their domestic league while reaching the Champions League final in consecutive years, following in the footsteps of Manchester United (2008-09).
