Mizoram, May 31: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl from the Chang community in Nagaland.
In a post on the social media platform X, CM Sangma stated, “I vehemently condemn the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl from the Chang community in Nagaland. Crimes against children are absolutely unacceptable and must be dealt with strictly.”
The Chief Minister emphasized that no child should endure such mental trauma. He demanded that those responsible for this incident face severe punishment under the law. CM Sangma urged authorities to ensure a swift and impartial investigation, guaranteeing full justice for the victim under all relevant laws, including the POCSO Act.
Expressing his condolences to the victim and her family, he said, “My sympathies are with the victim and her family. We must stand united against violence and abuse towards children and work towards creating a safe society for every child.”
This incident raises renewed concerns about child safety in the northeastern states. The POCSO Act mandates strict action against sexual offenses involving minors, yet there remains a pressing need for social awareness and expedited justice processes.
