Israel Launches Major Offensive in Southern Lebanon Against Hezbollah

Tel Aviv, May 31: Israel has intensified its military operations in southern Lebanon with the aim of dismantling Hezbollah. A large-scale offensive was announced on Sunday.

Ella Wavaya, spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), made the announcement via the social media platform X. She stated that the Israeli army has initiated a “major operation” in the Shebaa Farms (Buefort Ridge) and Wadi al-Saluki areas of southern Lebanon.

The objective of this operation is to “destroy terrorist infrastructure and eliminate attackers.” It is part of efforts to strengthen operational control in southern Lebanon and to eliminate direct threats to the Galilee Panhandle and the Metula community.

Wavaya noted that this operation “began several days ago with significant ground forces,” and soldiers are engaging in offensive actions to expand the frontline.

According to the IDF spokesperson, the army is also targeting launch sites from which hundreds of rockets and missile attacks have been launched against Israeli citizens and IDF forces stationed in southern Lebanon.

She further mentioned that Israeli forces have crossed the Litani River and expanded their attacks against Hezbollah north of the river. The operation is now spreading to additional areas.

This IDF operation was approved by Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir. Prior to the operation, systematic preparations for artillery fire and other operational readiness were completed under the Northern Command.

Wavaya emphasized that Israeli forces are active around Nabatieh and are “fully prepared to expand the scope of attacks if necessary.” The Israeli Defense Forces have stated they will continue their actions to eliminate any threats against Israel.
