Manipur Police Debunks Fake Reports of Arson and Shooting in Khuram Waifei Village

Imphal, May 31: The Manipur Police have dismissed reports of armed attackers setting fire to homes in Khuram Waifei village, Kangpokpi district, labeling them as false.

In an official statement, the police clarified that around 1:45 PM on May 30, 2026, unidentified armed miscreants opened fire near Khuram Waifei village. This incident resulted in the destruction of five thatched houses. Local security forces responded promptly to control the situation, and fortunately, there were no casualties. The police emphasized that the reports circulating online are entirely baseless.

The Manipur Police stated that any posts or statements praising the district Superintendent of Police (SP) by media linked to militant groups or fake sources on social media do not align with the facts of the incident. Allegations made against the district SP and security forces in these posts are completely false. Legal action will be taken against those spreading misinformation during this sensitive time.

On May 30, the Proud Indian X handle posted, “All eyes are on Rahul Gupta, IPS (SP, Kangpokpi District). Reports indicate that a fire was set in the Khuram Waifei village, allegedly by NSCN-IM/ZUF activists.”

According to sources, the Gorkha Rifles of the Indian Army and Central Reserve Police Force personnel instructed local volunteers to vacate their defensive positions, assuring them that security forces would ensure the safety of Khuram Waifei. Following the withdrawal of the volunteers, members of NSCN-IM and ZUF-Kamson reportedly launched an attack and set fires.

The post further stated that media outlets associated with NSCN-IM publicly praised the role of the Kangpokpi district SP in this incident.
