PM Modi Highlights Swimming Initiative for Disabled Children in Kerala

New Delhi, May 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 134th episode of his monthly program ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday. He spoke about a unique swimming club in Kerala, where disabled children are taught how to swim.

During the program, PM Modi encouraged listeners by saying, “In these hot summer days, schools are closed. However, I want to talk about a class that you would love to join. Imagine a school where children, youth, and the elderly come together, with no fees, no large buildings, and no classrooms. The most interesting part is that classes are held in a river.”

He elaborated, “This is not a story; it is a genuine effort. In Aluva, Kerala, Saji Valasheril runs such a swimming club. Over 15,000 people have learned to swim here, including disabled children.”

The Prime Minister shared the story behind this initiative, mentioning a tragic incident that deeply affected Saji. “A few years ago, a boating accident claimed the lives of several students. This incident shook Saji to his core. He thought that if children knew how to swim, many lives could have been saved. This is where his campaign began.”

In conclusion, PM Modi appealed to the public, saying, “In every village and city in India, something inspiring is happening. Often, these efforts go unnoticed, but when we learn about them, it strengthens our belief that the country is progressing through the power of its people. I urge you to recognize and appreciate those working for the betterment of society, learn from them, and if possible, get involved in good causes yourself.”
