New Delhi, May 31: The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the southwest district has detained six foreign nationals residing illegally in India without valid visa documents. Authorities announced this on Sunday.
Following the completion of all legal procedures, the process for their deportation has commenced through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Delhi.
According to the Delhi Police, this action was taken during the investigation of a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Vasant Kunj North police station. During the investigation, the six foreign nationals came under police suspicion, prompting the Anti-Narcotics Cell to conduct a thorough examination of their documents.
A special team was formed for this operation, led by Inspector Gajendra Singh of the Anti-Narcotics Cell and supervised by ACP (Operations) Sangamitra. The team received specific information regarding the presence of foreign nationals in the district, which led to inquiries and requests for identification and immigration documents.
Police reported that the individuals initially claimed to be citizens of Nigeria and Ivory Coast. They asserted that they had arrived in India on tourist and business visas. During questioning, they also stated that their visa documents were secured with their respective embassies.
However, the investigation revealed that all six individuals had overstayed their permitted duration in India.
The southwest district police stated, “Verification from the immigration department revealed that all were residing in India after their visa periods had expired and lacked valid visa documents. They admitted to residing illegally in India.”
Following a detailed investigation and verification, all necessary legal procedures have been completed, and the deportation process has been initiated through the FRRO in New Delhi.
The southwest district police emphasized that this action reflects their commitment to taking strict measures against foreign nationals residing illegally in the country and enforcing immigration laws.
The police statement noted, “Such proactive actions enhance public safety and increase trust in the Delhi Police.”
This operation was conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Cell team of the southwest district under the supervision of senior police officials.
