Trump Asserts Iran Will Not Acquire Nuclear Weapons Amid Ongoing Negotiations

Washington, May 31: President Donald Trump stated that his administration’s top priority is to ensure Iran never acquires nuclear weapons. He mentioned that the U.S. is very close to reaching a nuclear agreement with Iran, but military action remains an option if negotiations fail. This statement was made during an interview with Fox News at the White House.

Trump emphasized, “We are close to a very good deal, and if it turns out well, that’s great. If not, we will move forward with the ‘Department of War.’”

He claimed that Iran has agreed not to develop or acquire nuclear weapons. “My biggest guarantee should be that they will not have any nuclear weapons. They have agreed to this,” he added.

The President noted that the terms of the negotiations have been expanded due to concerns that Iran might obtain weapons from other sources. “Previously, they said they wouldn’t develop nuclear weapons. I asked, what if you buy them from somewhere? Now it includes that we will neither develop nor acquire any military weapons in any way.”

Trump described the negotiations as challenging but acknowledged that progress is being made. He expressed a desire for a solution through dialogue but warned that the U.S. would take action if its conditions are not met.

“If we don’t get what we want, we will end it in another way,” he stated. When asked about the potential timing of military action, Trump said any agreement that does not protect U.S. interests would not be accepted. “If any deal is not good for us, that is the last resort,” he remarked.

He pointed out that Iran is negotiating from a position of weakness, as the U.S. has previously conducted military operations there. Trump also mentioned that if an agreement is reached, the Strait of Hormuz would be opened immediately.

The President asserted that the upcoming midterm elections would not impact his policy decisions, stating, “I have to do what is right.”

During the interview, Trump criticized U.S. media coverage and targeted Democrats for opposing his domestic agenda, including tax cuts and border security measures.

This statement comes at a time when the administration is striving for a long-term agreement with Iran amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
