PM Modi Urges Citizens to Stay Hydrated Amid Rising Temperatures

New Delhi, May 31: In light of the significant rise in temperatures across various regions of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to take necessary precautions. During the 134th episode of his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, he emphasized the importance of staying hydrated.

Prime Minister Modi stated, “Currently, much of the country is experiencing extreme heat. It is crucial to take care of yourself in this weather with strong sunlight and hot winds. Keep drinking water. If you must go out in the sun, do so with caution. Don’t forget the guidelines issued by various government departments.”

In his address, PM Modi highlighted that traditional methods of combating heat can often be found in our kitchens. He noted how, as temperatures rise, the flavors in home cooking change. For instance, water from earthen pots becomes common, yogurt starts to set, and raw mangoes are boiled, leading to a surge in traditional beverages.

He remarked, “India’s traditional summer drinks are deeply rooted in the customs and cultures of various regions. Each drink tells a unique story, showcasing the vibrant diversity of India and reinforcing the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.”

Citing examples from different states, PM Modi mentioned familiar traditional drinks. In North India, one can find ‘aam panna’, a refreshing raw mango drink that provides relief from the heat. In Punjab and Haryana, large glasses of lassi are popular. In Rajasthan and Gujarat, buttermilk becomes a staple companion to meals. In Bihar, Jharkhand, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, ‘sattu’ drinks are known for their filling and energizing properties.

Additionally, he referenced kokum sherbet from Konkan and Goa, panakam and sambaram from South India, and bel panna from Odisha. He emphasized that these are not just beverages but integral parts of the traditions of various regions. In his message to the citizens, PM Modi encouraged everyone to enjoy these traditional drinks during the hot season.
