New Delhi, May 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised mango farmers across the nation during his monthly radio program, ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ on Sunday. He acknowledged their relentless hard work and dedication, which ensures that the “king of fruits,” the mango, reaches millions of families each year.
The Prime Minister noted that as summer arrives in India, discussions about mangoes begin in every household, and it is rare to find a home that does not celebrate this beloved fruit.
He stated, “Every region has its own mango, its unique taste, and fragrance. The Hapus (Alphonso) from Maharashtra and Konkan, Kesar from Gujarat, Dasheri from Uttar Pradesh, and Langra from my Kashi are immensely popular among people.”
Modi highlighted the unique characteristics of the Langra mango, mentioning that it often remains green even when ripe. He praised the aroma of the Zardalu mango from Bihar, saying its fragrance can be recognized from afar. He also mentioned other renowned varieties like Chausa and Malda.
In southern India, he pointed out the distinct identities of Banganapalli, Totapuri, Neelum, and Malgova mangoes. Additionally, the Him Sagar from West Bengal and the Suvarnarekha mango from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are also quite popular.
He remarked, “As the location changes, the shape, color, and taste of the mango also change. This is the beauty of India’s diversity.”
The Prime Minister emphasized that Indian mangoes are no longer confined to villages and local markets; they are now reaching global markets as well.
Addressing the farmers involved in mango cultivation, he said, “Through ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ I commend my farmer brothers and sisters associated with mango production. You are not just ordinary farmers; you are very special to the agricultural economy of our country. Keep shining like this.”
Modi’s message is seen as a source of encouragement for mango farmers and a tribute to the diversity of Indian agriculture.
