Tehran, May 23: Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran to engage in discussions regarding a permanent ceasefire between the United States and Iran. During his visit, he met with Iranian President Masoud Pajehshkian, Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, and the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
According to reports from Iran’s IRIB, Munir also held discussions with Parliament Speaker Qalibaf. Al Arabiya cited informed sources stating that Munir had sent messages to Tehran, which included threats of resuming hostilities.
As reported by Mehr News, President Pajehshkian emphasized the importance of Islamic unity during his meeting with Munir. He noted that Iran has demonstrated its commitment to the international legal framework.
President Pajehshkian stated, “We are merely trying to realize our legitimate and legal rights. However, the record of negotiations with Americans indicates that we must exercise extreme caution.” He referred to the Iranian people’s declining trust in the U.S. due to repeated broken promises, attacks during negotiations, and the assassination of officials. He remarked, “In such circumstances, Iran is on the path of dialogue, relying on brotherly relations with friendly nations like Pakistan, but our main goal is to secure the interests of the Iranian nation with a proper solution.”
He asserted that the U.S. will not win this battle; instead, it will cause serious harm to the region and the world. He added that the only party seeking to secure its interests through war in the region is the Israeli regime.
On the other hand, Munir stated that Israel seeks to benefit from conflicts and divisions among Muslims. Pakistan aims to foster stability and prevent ongoing and future wars in the region.
The military issued a statement indicating that Asim Munir completed a brief but highly beneficial visit to Iran. During this trip, he held high-level meetings with Iranian leadership. The statement noted that discussions over the past 24 hours have made significant progress toward a final agreement.
Additionally, according to reports from Pakistan TV, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Iran’s Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nourizadeh in Tehran. Both parties stressed the need to expedite agreements in the agricultural sector and facilitate the transport of essential goods. They also highlighted shared opportunities in agricultural and livestock trade between the two countries.
