Imphal, May 24: Manipur’s Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, has called on the youth to stay connected to their culture, traditions, and values. He emphasized the importance of progressing in a modern and global environment while never forgetting one’s roots.
Governor Bhalla made these remarks during an event held at Lok Bhawan in Imphal. He also sent off a delegation from Manipur to participate in the 11th SPIC MACAY International Convention at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in West Bengal.
SPIC MACAY, which stands for the Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth, is a voluntary and non-political cultural movement. Its mission is to connect youth and students with Indian classical music, dance, folk traditions, handicrafts, yoga, meditation, heritage, and both Indian and global cultural legacies.
The week-long international convention, taking place from May 25 to 31, will see participation from youth across several countries, including India. This event will serve as a significant platform for cultural exchange, learning arts, and dialogue among young people from diverse backgrounds.
A total of 18 members from Manipur will attend the convention, including students and teachers from the Manipur University of Culture, Assam Rifles Public School, and Keithelmanbi.
During his interaction with students and teachers, the Governor extended his best wishes and noted that this convention offers a fantastic opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of India’s rich cultural heritage and global artistic traditions.
He advised students to maximize their learning from the various workshops, cultural presentations, and sessions during the convention. He encouraged them to engage with participants from other states and countries to gain new experiences.
Ajay Kumar Bhalla stated that such platforms enhance respect for cultural diversity among youth and strengthen unity, creativity, and mutual understanding within society.
The event was also attended by several senior officials from the Assam Rifles, SPIC MACAY Imphal chapter representatives, and school delegates.
