Surge in Pilgrims Boosts Employment Opportunities in Uttarakhand, Says Minister

Rudraprayag, May 24: The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand is witnessing an unprecedented surge in pilgrim numbers this year. According to the state government, the influx of devotees has exceeded expectations, significantly benefiting the tourism sector and creating new job opportunities for local residents.

Uttarakhand Minister Bharat Singh Chaudhary stated that the number of pilgrims this year has surpassed government projections. He emphasized that the rising numbers are having a clear positive impact on the state’s tourism economy.

The Char Dham Yatra is considered one of the holiest pilgrimages in Hinduism, where devotees visit the sacred sites of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. This year, all four shrines are experiencing record crowds.

Minister Chaudhary noted that all agencies have been placed on high alert to ensure the pilgrimage is safe and well-organized. Police, administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are continuously monitoring the situation.

He acknowledged that while the large number of pilgrims has led to increased crowds in certain areas, there have been no reports of any unpleasant incidents, indicating that the situation is under control.

The minister highlighted that all necessary facilities for the pilgrims have been prioritized. Special attention has been given to strengthening arrangements along the pedestrian route from Gaurikund to Kedarnath.

Additionally, provisions for water and fodder for animals used during the pilgrimage have been made. Medical facilities are also available to ensure immediate treatment if required.

According to government data, approximately 80,000 pilgrims are visiting the Char Dham each day. As of May 14, a total of 1.26 million pilgrims had completed the Char Dham Yatra.

The doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri were opened on April 19 amidst Vedic chants, while the doors of Kedarnath and Badrinath were opened for devotees on April 22 and 23, respectively.
