Hyderabad, May 24: A lawyer from the Telangana High Court was reportedly killed on Saturday in Hyderabad when unknown assailants struck him with a speeding SUV, which police are treating as a targeted attack. The incident occurred in the bustling Masab Tank area of the city.
According to police reports, lawyer Khwaja Moizuddin was getting into his car near his residence when a fast-moving Scorpio SUV hit him from behind. Following the collision, the vehicle sped away, leaving Moizuddin severely injured on the road. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Initially, police classified the incident as a hit-and-run. However, after a complaint filed by the family and a review of CCTV footage, authorities are now treating it as a murder case, potentially linked to ongoing disputes over Waqf land.
Moizuddin was a senior advocate with nearly 35 years of experience practicing in the High Court and the City Civil Court.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rakshita Krishna Murthy informed the media that preliminary investigations suggest involvement from individuals connected to disputes over Waqf land in Malakpet and other areas of Hyderabad.
Moizuddin’s family has named two individuals allegedly linked to the legal cases he was handling concerning encroachments on Waqf land.
Police have formed special teams to trace the SUV used in the crime, identify the suspects, and ensure their arrest.
Moizuddin’s son, Farhan, who is also a lawyer, stated that his father had received threats from two individuals reportedly involved in the encroachments. He claimed that his father had faced five attacks in the past.
Farhan further alleged that one of the suspects had visited his father’s office months ago, issuing a “final warning” regarding the legal matters at hand.
The Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association condemned the murder and demanded that the Director General of Police and the Hyderabad Police Commissioner form a special team to swiftly identify and arrest the culprits, ensuring they are prosecuted according to the law.
Meanwhile, AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi also condemned Moizuddin’s murder, calling for the arrest of the “main conspirators and attackers” behind this heinous act.
