Major Highway Upgrades Approved: Jaipur-Kishangarh to Become 6-Lane, Elevated Corridor in Maharashtra

New Delhi, March 14: The central government has taken a significant step towards modernizing and enhancing the safety of National Highway-48, one of the country’s key highways. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the approval for the 6-lane upgrade of the Jaipur-Kishangarh route in Rajasthan and the construction of an elevated corridor in Kagal, Maharashtra.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Minister Gadkari stated, “An investment of ₹910.90 crores has been approved for the construction of flyovers and service roads as part of the 6-lane upgrade of the Jaipur-Kishangarh section (length 89.785 km) in the Jaipur and Ajmer districts.”

He further elaborated, “This corridor will be partially developed as an access-controlled highway, which will help increase average vehicle speeds and reduce travel time from the current 2 hours to approximately 1 hour. The separation of local traffic, along with the provision of service roads and flyovers, will also enhance safety. Existing conflict points on this section will be addressed to reduce accidents and fatalities.”

In another post, Gadkari mentioned, “Approval has been granted for the construction of a 6-lane elevated corridor with 3-lane concrete service roads on both sides along National Highway-48 in Kagal, Kolhapur district, at a cost of ₹357.99 crores.”

The minister noted that National Highway-48 is a crucial route in India’s Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) highway network, connecting major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

He also highlighted that the presence of a 5-star MIDC industrial area in Kagal has led to rapid growth in trade and industry in the region. Consequently, there is significant pressure from freight vehicles on this highway, resulting in severe traffic congestion and increased pollution levels. This situation adversely affects the timely delivery of emergency services.

Gadkari wrote, “The approved elevated corridor will separate long-distance express traffic from local vehicle movement, facilitating smoother local traffic flow. This initiative will make travel faster and safer for both passengers and freight vehicles. Additionally, it will save fuel and reduce travel time, helping to alleviate traffic congestion in surrounding areas.”

He expressed optimism that this elevated highway project would boost regional productivity and economic prosperity while ensuring efficient delivery of emergency services. Overall, this project is expected to play a vital role in streamlining domestic transport systems and enhancing freight efficiency.
