Celebrating 49 Years of Amar Akbar Anthony: Neetu Kapoor Thanks Manmohan Desai

Mumbai, May 27: Some films do more than entertain; they become a part of history. One such timeless blockbuster, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony,’ was released in 1977 and recently marked its 49th anniversary. Directed by Manmohan Desai, this film continues to resonate with audiences today.

Actress Neetu Kapoor expressed her joy on Instagram, celebrating the film’s milestone. She shared a post in her stories, thanking the director, writing, “’Amar Akbar Anthony’ was released on May 27, 1977, and I sincerely thank director Manmohan Desai.”

This blockbuster Hindi action-comedy remains as beloved now as it was at the time of its release. The unique story of three brothers has become one of the greatest cult classics and blockbuster masala films in Indian cinema history.

In the film, Neetu Kapoor (formerly Neetu Singh) portrayed ‘Dr. Salma Ali,’ a kind and wise Muslim doctor. Her character’s love story with actor Rishi Kapoor is a highlight of the film.

The film prioritizes emotion and drama over logic, blending action, comedy, romance, and memorable songs that broke box office records. The lead roles were played by Vinod Khanna (Amar), Rishi Kapoor (Akbar), and Amitabh Bachchan (Anthony).

The narrative follows three brothers separated in childhood, raised in families of different religions. Ultimately, they unite to confront their common enemy. This film is celebrated for its exceptional music, action, comedy, and its message of unity in diversity, marking a milestone in Indian cinema.

Recently, Neetu Kapoor appeared in the comedy-drama film ‘Dadi Ki Shaadi,’ directed by Ashish R. Mohan. The film features Neetu Kapoor alongside Kapil Sharma and R. Sarathkumar. Notably, Neetu’s daughter, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, made her Bollywood debut in this film.
