New Delhi, May 27: In a thrilling showdown at the IPL 2026 Qualifier-1, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) dominated the Gujarat Titans, winning by 92 runs and securing their place in the finals for the second consecutive year. The match took place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, where RCB set a formidable target of 254 runs, scoring 254/5 in their 20 overs. In response, Gujarat Titans managed only 162 runs, bowled out in 19.3 overs. RCB’s captain, Rajat Patidar, was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
This victory has etched RCB’s name in the record books. It marks the second-largest win by runs in IPL playoff history. The previous record was held by Rajasthan Royals, who defeated Delhi Capitals by 105 runs in 2008. RCB’s win now places them second on this list, surpassing their own 71-run victory over Rajasthan Royals in 2015. Notably, Chennai Super Kings had previously defeated Delhi by 86 runs in 2012, while Mumbai Indians triumphed over Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs in 2023.
Interestingly, this match marked the first time in nine encounters between these teams that the side batting first emerged victorious. In all previous matches, the chasing team had claimed victory.
For Gujarat Titans, this was their second-largest defeat in terms of runs. Earlier this season, they faced a 99-run loss to Mumbai Indians in Ahmedabad.
RCB’s seasoned fast bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, has taken 26 wickets this season, tying for second-most wickets in a single season for RCB. The record is held by Harshal Patel, who took 32 wickets in 2021. Wanindu Hasaranga also achieved 26 wickets in 2022, while R. Vinay Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal recorded 23 wickets each in 2013 and 2015, respectively.
By reaching the finals for the second year in a row, RCB has accomplished a significant milestone. Historically, only a few teams have reached the finals in the season following their title win. Chennai Super Kings achieved this feat in 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2018-19, while Mumbai Indians did so in 2019-20 and Gujarat Titans in 2022-23. Now, RCB joins this elite group for the 2025-26 season.
Additionally, RCB has become the third team in IPL history to reach the finals the most times. Chennai Super Kings lead with ten finals, followed by Mumbai Indians with six. RCB has now reached the finals five times, while Kolkata Knight Riders have made it four times and Sunrisers Hyderabad three times.
