Telangana BJP Chief Defends SIR Process Amid Opposition Criticism

Hyderabad, May 27: Telangana BJP President N. Ramchandra Rao has defended the SIR (Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation) process, dismissing allegations from the Congress party. He stated that SIR is a regular electoral procedure conducted periodically by the Election Commission of India.

Rao remarked, “SIR is a routinely operated electoral process. It is not a policy initiated by any government or the BJP, but rather a procedure organized by the Election Commission from time to time. This is likely the 10th or 11th time SIR is being conducted in the country. The Congress and the opposition alliance are attempting to blame the SIR process for their electoral defeats.”

He further emphasized, “The BJP’s 12 years in power have proven that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in the country. Previous leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru were appointed before elections, while Modi has completed 12 years through a fully democratic electoral process, gaining extensive administrative experience during his tenure as Chief Minister.”

In response, M. Kodandaram, leader of the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS), expressed concerns regarding the SIR process. He stated that it is infringing upon the voting rights of citizens, particularly marginalized communities such as Scheduled Castes, minorities, and the impoverished. “These groups are being deprived of their most significant democratic right. Voting is the constitutional weapon through which they assert their demands to the government. If this right is taken away, they will lose their civil rights and their ability to voice their concerns will be completely diminished,” he warned.

Kodandaram also countered remarks made by BJP MP Arvind regarding speculations about Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s political maneuvers. He claimed that statements made during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Hyderabad were misrepresented and urged everyone not to doubt the political intentions of Chief Minister Reddy.
