
Chennai, May 27: Tamil Nadu‘s Sports Minister Aadhav Arjun has extended financial assistance of ₹10 lakh to chess player Vaishali for her participation in international chess tournaments.
On Wednesday, Minister Aadhav Arjun presented a cheque to Vaishali at the Nehru Indoor Stadium. He emphasized the state’s commitment to supporting athletes in winning medals at international and global competitions. The government is actively identifying talented players and providing need-based assistance for their sporting requirements.
Under the Champions Development Scheme (CDS), national-level gold medalists under the age of 20 are selected and can receive up to ₹4 lakh annually in need-based support. This funding covers expenses such as sports attire, equipment, training abroad, and participation in international competitions.
Additionally, the Medal Incentive for International Meets Scheme (MIMS) offers financial aid of up to ₹12 lakh per year to athletes with the potential to win medals in international events. This assistance is aimed at purchasing sports equipment, training abroad, and competing in international tournaments.
The Elite Scheme also provides tailored support to top athletes capable of winning medals in the Olympics and other international competitions. Under this scheme, each athlete can receive up to ₹30 lakh annually based on their needs.
In line with this initiative, Vaishali has been granted ₹10 lakh for her participation in international chess tournaments. The state is committed to providing immediate financial support to athletes who have won national medals and aspire to excel in international competitions.
The event was attended by IAS Secretary of Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Sajjan Singh R Chavan, IAS Member Secretary of Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, J Meghnath Reddy, District Revenue Officer R Suman, General Manager L Sujata, and other government officials.
