Dharmshala, May 27: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cricket director Mo Bobat credited the team’s collective effort for their remarkable 92-run victory against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1, securing a place in the IPL finals for the second consecutive year.
RCB delivered an impressive performance at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, setting a record score of 254/5 before bowling out Gujarat Titans for just 162 runs. Captain Rajat Patidar led the charge with an unbeaten 93 runs, while several other players made significant contributions with both bat and ball.
In a post-match discussion, Bobat emphasized that RCB’s greatest strength this season has been the ability of different players to step up at crucial moments, rather than relying solely on one or two individuals.
During the press conference, Bobat stated, “I am particularly pleased that many players contributed to our victory. When people talk about a ‘complete team,’ that’s precisely what I mean. We do not overly depend on just one or two players, as many have taken responsibility, which is essential for going far in any tournament.”
Bobat noted that RCB’s strong team identity was evident during last season’s championship-winning campaign and believes the team has continued that culture into IPL 2026.
He added, “Looking at today’s match, regardless of the outcome, every player who had the opportunity to impact the game and apply pressure on the opposing team did so effectively. Our focus remains on how we play our cricket. If everyone contributes and plays their role, the results will follow.”
This mindset was clearly reflected in RCB’s batting performance against Gujarat. Venkatesh Iyer provided a quick start, while Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal maintained the momentum. Krunal Pandya formed a crucial partnership with Patidar during the middle overs.
The bowlers also excelled, with Jacob Duffy taking three wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rasikh Salam Dar, and Krunal Pandya each claimed two wickets, dismantling Gujarat’s batting lineup.
Bobat praised the players’ mentality, noting their eagerness to take responsibility in high-pressure situations. He remarked, “Experience matters in pressure matches, but it also reveals a lot about the players’ personalities and character. Virat Kohli brings energy, a hunger to win, and a fighting spirit to the team. Krunal Pandya shares that aggression and always wants to be involved in tough moments. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood are calm players, but they also want to stand firm under pressure. Building a team where players step up to face challenges rather than shy away is significant.”
With this impressive victory, defending champions RCB are one step closer to retaining their IPL title. The team is set to enter the finals on Sunday with enthusiasm and confidence.
