Bhopal, February 18: The political reactions to the Madhya Pradesh Budget 2026-27 are intensifying. Hemant Khandelwal, the state president of the BJP, highlighted that the budget focuses on the poor, youth, farmers, and women, calling it a significant step towards development.
He stated that this budget, amounting to approximately ₹4.65 lakh crore, reflects the state’s economic vision. Due to government policies, the per capita income in the state has risen from ₹1.41 lakh to nearly ₹1.79 lakh, marking an increase of about 19%. This indicates that the government’s economic strategies are effectively enhancing people’s incomes.
The government has also made substantial provisions for the agricultural sector. Plans include the installation of one lakh solar pumps and the implementation of natural farming across one lakh hectares. Additionally, the funding for the Ladli Behna scheme aimed at women’s empowerment has been increased.
Several important initiatives have been introduced for the youth as well. Construction of hostels is underway to provide better facilities for young people. Provisions have also been made for ₹25,000 crore in loans and benefits for 40,000 registered beneficiaries of the Atal Pension Scheme. A budget of ₹815 crore has been allocated for the development of sports.
To accelerate infrastructure development, ₹21,000 crore has been earmarked under the Chief Minister’s Majra-Tola scheme. In a significant move for education, the government has decided to open 294 Sandipani schools, which are expected to lay a strong foundation for future education.
The budget also includes special provisions for social and religious activities. ₹10,000 crore has been allocated for the Ghumkar community and the Ji Ram Ji bill. Special provisions have been made to promote major religious events and tourism planned for 2028.
Khandelwal emphasized that this budget serves as a document that will determine Madhya Pradesh’s economic direction until 2047. The government’s goal is to elevate the state’s economy to nearly $2 trillion by that year.
In response to opposition criticism, he noted that the state’s budget was approximately ₹23,000 crore in 2003, whereas the current budget is nearly 20 times larger. He urged the opposition to acknowledge positive developments, as initiatives benefiting the public should be welcomed by both the ruling party and the opposition.
He also mentioned that many schemes have seen an increase in allocations by 15 to 20% compared to previous budgets, with plans for further increases included. According to him, this budget provides a clear glimpse of the state’s overall development.
